Board of Directors

Alegría is guided by a dedicated board of directors who provide essential leadership and support. Comprised of individuals with diverse expertise, the board ensures the choir's strategic direction and operational effectiveness. Their commitment to our mission and their strategic oversight help us thrive and continue to deliver exceptional musical experiences to our community.

Artistic Director

Jo Scurlock-Dillard

Jo Scurlock-Dillard is the founding artistic director of "Alegría." She taught choral music and theatre for 35 years before retiring from the classroom. She now leads Alegría with the same passion, crafting inspiring performances.

Chair

Tiffanie Clausewitz

Tiffanie, a local business attorney, has served as Alegría's board chair since its inception. She has sung in choirs since the age of 10, and is a proud member of our Soprano I section. Her expertise and passion have enriched the group’s dynamic.

Member Relations

Amanda Jeffries-Hardy

Amanda Jeffries-Hardy is a choral director with 12 years in public schools and 3 years as a choral consultant. Known for her dedication, she has won numerous awards for her work. She is also serves on the faculty at Trinity University.

Secretary

Becky Westlund

Becky, who holds an MM in vocal pedagogy and DMA in vocal performance, is a voice teacher at Reagan High School. She serves as Alegría's secretary and sings in the choir in the Soprano 1 section.

Treasurer

Laura Shook

Laura is a former teacher who now works in the educational assessment field. As a charter member of the alto section, she hopes to broaden Alegría's presence and impact by connecting with partners who support the choir's mission.

Gary Mabry

Dr. Mabry served as choral director and voice teacher for the UTSA School of Music for 28 years, retiring in 2019. He is a former conductor of the San Antonio Choral Society and former chorus master of Opera San Antonio.

Mark Nerio

Mark Nerio is a retired banking executive with a focus on community development. He holds degrees from SMU and Harvard, and is a former member of the Dallas Symphony Chorus and the San Antonio Mastersingers.

Linda Poetschke

Linda Poetschke is Professor Emerita in Music at UTSA, following 34 years of teaching. She serves on the Board of Directors for Opera San Antonio and is also a member of the Opera Guild of San Antonio.

Kealey Martinez

Kealey Martinez is a performing member of Alegría. A nurse by day, Kealey stays connected to the arts through her efforts to support fine arts organizations in Northside ISD and throughout San Antonio.

Victoria Reyna Varville

Victoria Reyna Varville is Director of Communications at a local healthcare facility. A lifelong advocate of the arts, she lends her skills in communications to advocating for fine arts organizations and school programs.
